What is Vizsla rescue?
Show Me Vizsla Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding good homes for Vizslas in need. Most dog breed groups have some form of rescue dedicated to their particular breed and Show Me Vizsla Club supports Vizsla rescue. Show Me Vizsla Rescue obtains Vizslas from animal shelters or current owners unable to keep their dog any longer. Rescue organizations work out of a love for the breed and finance rescue efforts themselves. In many cases, rescue animals require veterinary care incurring significant cost.
The Show Me Vizsla Club Rescue Program operates one of the more active programs in the United States. Monthly ads placed in the Kansas City Star are intended to serve as an educational vehicle about the breed for prospective pet owners, thereby ensuring a good owner/pet match, and as a preventative tool to circumvent future rescue problems. Aids and informational material to determine if a Vizsla is right for you are available on this website in the Education, The Vizsla and Rescue links.
Adoption Cost
The current cost of adopting a rescue Vizsla is $325.00, which meets normal costs incurred during animal rescue. This cost is subject to change due to circumstances that may arise above and beyond normal rescue conditions. If travel, crating or veterinary costs are incurred during the placement of a rescue Vizsla, the adopting individual assumes those costs.
Rescue Vizslas
Show Me Vizsla Club is active only in purebred Vizsla placement. Rescue animals of mixed lineage are supported through other rescue organizations, such as the Humane Society and Wayside Waifs. If Show Me Vizsla Club has knowledge of a mixed rescue in need of a home and you are interested, we will be happy to share that information with you.
Due to the overall nature of rescue, Vizslas rarely have papers. Should a question arise of whether a dog is pure bred; an evaluation will be completed by a member of the Show Me Vizsla Club.
Age of a rescue Vizsla varies due to the volume of rescues coming through the program. Historically, male vizslas are more prevalent than females. All rescue vizslas are spayed or neutered prior to placement and are passed through behavioral evaluations by one or more Show Me Vizsla club members.
Considering Adopting a Vizsla? Here's How!
An adoption application is available by contacting one of our committee members, or by submitting the adoption form available under the Rescue link. You will be contacted when your application matches one of our rescues needs.
Placing a Vizsla?
If you are looking to PLACE a Vizsla into Show Me Vizsla Club's Rescue Program, please contact one of the committee members who will discuss our policy and procedures for intake and filling out the intake form. If this is an owner/finder turn in, a transfer of ownership and release of liability form must be signed. To turn a dog into rescue, we need to have a current negative heartworm test, up to date on shots, spayed or neutered. Please include a recent picture if at all possible.
